When my family decided to visit Yellowstone we all knew it was going to be incredible, but again, we didn’t really understand how incredible it is. The landscape and features are very unusual and breathtaking. The National Park Service makes much of the park accessible, and that is fortunate because there is so much to see.

When you visit the park there are the highlights to see. Old Faithful, Yellowstone Canyon, Grand Prismatic Pool. But you really don’t know how foreign and strange this landscape is until you visit it. Yellowstone, regardless of where your originating from, is such a must. The traveler is rewarded with bizarre and wondrous sites for their journey to the park.
The breath and scope of the geologic formations are difficult to comprehend until you see them. The geysers come in all shapes, sizes and colors – and they’re everywhere. The ground is literally alive with hot water. Yellowstone Canyon and Falls rival any natural canyon system you might visit (save the Grand Canyon). Yellowstone Lake is a massive body of water with a marina and historic hotel on its shores. The wildlife includes bears, bison, elk, deer, wolfs and many others – it is so diverse, abundant and engaging.

Several times I spoke with persons who worked for the various companies or park service that handle operations. Many of them had been working the summer season for years, and a few of them for 20 plus years. They so enjoy their time in the park that they return year after year to live and work in the natural landscape. Casual travelers could spend a week exploring the park and not be bored. Naturalist could take a month, or longer. Myself, I’m planning to return before too long. Once I retire I would like to spend at least a couple weeks a year here. The accommodations are good (not great). The food is ok. The service is not on par with most 4 or 5 star locations – but the natural beauty is so breathtaking and different it makes the visit rewarding.
This location needs to be on any person’s bucket list. And again, visiting is so worth it.
